David
Yurman introduced his long anticipated Thoroughbred Watch Collection
at the 1999 International Clock and Watch Fair in Basel, Switzerland.
The Thoroughbred introduction signals a major brand extension
for David who worked for two years with his wife and business
partner, Sybil, to realize their vision of the perfect timepiece.
David combines the soft sensuality
of antique sterling silver with the precision and durability of
stainless steel. Its cushion-shaped case, similar to the stone
shapes used in his jewelry, is available with or without diamond
bezel. The twelve layered unique lacquer dial features elegant
Arabic numerals or applied index markers in fashion colors such
as black, white, pistachio, midnight blue, bronze and black or
white mother of pearls. In addition, each component bears the
designer’s mark with subtle references to the classic cable design
on the bracelet and case.
The Thoroughbred Watch is 100% hand made in Switzerland
in the standards of the Swiss tradition of watch making.
“My goal was to design a luxury watch with a distinct
point of view, one that marries my signature style to a classic
form and that tells as much about the wearer as it tells time.”
— David Yurman
David Yurman awarded Steven Spielberg the
1999 Humitarian award with a beautiful Thoroughbred watch to
help launch this beautiful new line.
