Hardy is in an enviable position. Living among the treetops,
with a traditional island sarong around his waist, Hardy spends
his working life surrounded by captivating views of the Ayung
River, rice paddies and volcanic mountains in the distance.
When Hardy came to Bali 25 years ago as a self-proclaimed "hippy",
he pursued the Balinese way of life through his personal lifestyle
and work. Today, these principles remain at the cornerstone of
his jewelry collection. "I make jewelry that is comfortable enough
to wear everyday. Some of my clients put on a piece of jewelry
and keep it on for months," says Hardy. "My customer tends to
buy what she loves and does not follow the trends," he adds.
The company brings together oldworld craftsmanship, such as hand
woven chain and stone and wax carving, combined with modern technology.
"It's a synthesis of the old and the new," explains Hardy, who
takes pride in showing customers how each piece, even the
sterling silver designs are hand-finished to the last detail.
This year, Hardy has introduced several new collections that emphasize
high-end jewelry and colored gemstones in limited distribution.
The Harmony design presents invisibly set stones in an elegant
and wearable style. In this labor intensive process, Hardy says
it takes three men working one day to cut and reset the stones
for one invisibly set design.
